CLEANING POLYCARBONATE SHEET

CLEANING POLYCARBONATE SHEET

How to Clean and Take Care of Polycarbonate sheet

You have just bought a piece of polycarbonate sheet from our store, we sell a variety of thickness from 2mm to 10 mm. We at acrylicsheetcuttosize would like to give these golden rules of wisdom to help you get the most value out of your product. Your satisfaction is our number one priority.

The first Problem with cleaning and caring for polycarbonate sheet is the use of incorrect cleaners. It should be kept in mind never to use cleaners containing ammonia as they could do more harm than clean. Beware of using the cleaners such as Windex or 409 these will harm your newly bought polycarbonate.

It is always better to do a little research beforehand when taking the task of cleaning a product that’s new, you would see that products which are specifically recommended for cleaning polycarbonate are Novus #1, or Brillianize, and a soft cloth. Which can be easily bought online or from retail shops.

Never use a dry cloth or your hand to clean your polycarbonate. By doing this the small particles of dust end up damaging the polycarbonate due to the friction.

When cleaning try to blow the dust or dirt off or use water and a soft cloth to float the dirt off. After that is done you can use a recommended cleaner to complete the cleaning. Also keep in mind that, a mild solution of dish detergent and warm water takes off stubborn dirt easily without doing any damage to the polycarbonate if you’ve run out of Novus #1 or Brillianize. If you don’t have the cleaning product then use water and a soft cloth.

The second Problem with polycarbonate is Sunlight.

While Plexiglass is NOT affected by the sun, polycarbonate is. Untreated or standard general-purpose polycarbonate is good for 5-7 years in the direct sun before it starts to haze and discolor a bit. It does not lose its strength but is less transparent. Products in the polycarbonate which are produced with a protective layer will not change much even in 15 years. Your headlight covers that discolor are also made of polycarbonate and a little buffing keeps them as new as they were the first day.

Removing Scratches from polycarbonate

Normal light scratches can be removed with a mild abrasive polish such as Novus#2 or Novus #3. Fine scratches cannot be removed with a mild abrasive polish such as Novus #2, or Novus #3. While the material looks similar to Plexiglas, it is made of carbon, not methyl methacrylate. 2 very different compounds. We Want You to Be Satisfied. We have offered these basic rules to guide you to years of satisfaction.
